This painting by Gustav Klimt draft design for a theater curtain early in his career. The decorative composition shows his emerging interest in ornamental patterns that would later define his famous style.
Klimt worked on several theater commissions before developing his golden period works. This draft was once at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston until its theft in 1990. Its whereabouts remain unknown.
