by Paul Gauguin
Paul Gauguin painted The Forest Path in 1873, an early work in the Impressionist style before his later Post-Impressionist experiments. The woodland scene shows a trail bending and disappearing among trees, with a lone figure strolling down the path.
Gauguin uses a muted palette of earthy tones to capture diffused forest light. Towering trees frame the composition on both sides, with light clouds visible through the canopy. This serene landscape predates the bold colors and Tahitian subjects that would define his mature work. The painting remains in a private collection.
