German sculpture has a long tradition stretching from medieval wood carving through the Baroque and Rococo to modern art. Germany produced some of Europe's finest woodcarvers, including Tilman Riemenschneider and Veit Stoss, whose altarpieces and religious figures rank among the masterworks of late Gothic art. The country was also a center for porcelain production, with Meissen and Nymphenburg setting European standards.
