Giovanni Battista Nini (1717-1786) was an Italian-born artist who worked in France, becoming famous for his terracotta portrait medallions. Working at the Chaumont-sur-Loire glass factory, he created profile portraits of aristocrats, philosophers, and public figures that were widely collected. His medallion of Benjamin Franklin is among the most famous portraits of the American statesman.
