Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola (1507-1573) was one of the most influential Italian Renaissance architects. Born in Vignola near Modena, he designed the Church of the Gesù in Rome (the mother church of the Jesuits), whose facade became the model for Baroque churches worldwide. His treatise on the five orders of architecture became the standard reference for centuries.
