Johann Gottlieb Kirchner
German
Johann Gottlieb Kirchner (c. 1706-after 1738) was a German sculptor who became the first modeler of large-scale porcelain figures at the Meissen factory. Before Kändler's arrival, Kirchner attempted monumental animal figures for Augustus the Strong's Japanese Palace, pushing porcelain beyond its traditional small-scale limitations.
