The Ferens Art Gallery in Hull was founded in 1927 through a bequest by Thomas Robinson Ferens, a local industrialist and philanthropist. The neoclassical building on Queen Victoria Square holds one of northern England's most significant regional art collections.
European old masters from the Renaissance through the 18th century sit alongside British painting from the 18th century to the present. Frans Hals, Canaletto, and the Camden Town Group are represented. The gallery was a centerpiece of Hull's year as UK City of Culture in 2017, when it hosted a major exhibition including the Turner Prize show.
