The Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes was inaugurated in 1982 by French President François Mitterrand, housing the collection donated by Pierre and Denise Lévy, prominent Troyes textile industrialists. Their 1976 gift of roughly 3,000 works by over 200 artists formed the museum's foundation.
The collection emphasizes Fauvism and Expressionism, with paintings by Matisse, Vlaminck, Derain, and Modigliani. Maurice Marinot, a Troyes-born glass artist who transitioned from painting to glasswork, is particularly well represented. Sculptures, tapestries, ceramics, and African art round out a diverse collection housed in the 16th-century Hôtel de Vauluisant.
