The Polenov Museum (Polenovo) in Tula Oblast, Russia, was the country estate of landscape painter Vasily Polenov (1844-1927). Polenov designed and built the house himself in the 1890s, overlooking the Oka River, and opened it as a museum during his lifetime in 1892.
The collection preserves Polenov's paintings, including studies for his monumental Life of Christ cycle, alongside works by friends and colleagues. The estate's several buildings, each designed by Polenov for specific purposes, are surrounded by the river landscapes that inspired his most famous paintings.
