Schloss Weissenstein in Pommersfelden is a Baroque palace built between 1711 and 1718 for Prince-Bishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn. The three-story marble staircase hall, designed by Johann Dientzenhofer, is one of the finest in German Baroque architecture.
The palace picture gallery, established by the prince-bishop himself, is one of the oldest private galleries in Germany. Works by Rubens, Titian, Van Dyck, and Dürer hang in the original Baroque setting. The palace remains in the Schönborn family and is open for guided tours during the summer months.
