Camille Pissarro painted The Wood Cart during his exploration of rural French life. The scene captures a horse-drawn cart loaded with timber, set against a rustic countryside backdrop. Pissarro's loose brushwork gives the landscape an atmospheric quality typical of his Impressionist approach.
As a founding figure of Impressionism, Pissarro often painted working-class subjects and agricultural scenes. His interest in peasant labor connected him to both the Barbizon tradition and younger painters like Cézanne, whom he mentored. This piece remains in a private collection.
