Dante Gabriel Rossetti imagined the medieval painter Giotto creating a portrait of the poet Dante. Rossetti, named after the great poet, was fascinated by medieval Italian culture.
As a founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Rossetti looked to early Italian art for inspiration. This work is in a private collection.
