Dante Gabriel Rossetti made this study for his painting Ecce Ancilla Domini (The Annunciation). The delicate drawing shows his preparation for the finished work. Rossetti was a founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
The Latin title means "Behold the Handmaid of the Lord." This study reveals his careful planning process. It hangs at Tate Britain in London.
