Piet Mondrian completed this Dutch windmill bathed in sunlight during his early representational period. The traditional mill stands against an atmospheric sky, far removed from his later geometric abstractions. Mondrian evolved from such landscapes to become a pioneer of pure abstraction.
This work shows Mondrian's early interest in light and atmosphere influenced by Dutch landscape tradition and Impressionism. The painting hangs at the Noordbrabants Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
