Piet Mondrian developed his mature style of geometric abstraction through the De Stijl movement, using only horizontal and vertical black lines with primary colors and white. This untitled work exemplifies his belief that pure abstraction could express universal harmony and spiritual truth.
Mondrian spent decades refining this visual language, eliminating all curves and diagonal lines. His grid compositions influenced architecture, design, and fashion throughout the 20th century. Each placement of color and line was carefully calibrated to achieve visual equilibrium. This work is in a private collection.
