Antony Gormley (born 1950) is a British sculptor known for large-scale installations and figures cast from his own body. Born in London, he studied at Cambridge, the Central School of Art, and Goldsmiths before spending three years traveling in India and Sri Lanka. His work explores the relationship between the human body and space.
Gormley's Angel of the North (1998), a 66-foot steel figure with airplane wings, stands beside the A1 motorway near Gateshead and has become one of Britain's most recognized public sculptures. His Another Place installation, with 100 iron figures spread along Crosby Beach near Liverpool, is equally striking. He won the Turner Prize in 1994. Our collection includes works at leading institutions.
