Baron François-Joseph Bosio (1768-1845) was a Monegasque-French sculptor who became the official sculptor of the Restoration monarchy. Born in Monaco, he studied in Paris and Rome before becoming one of the most favored sculptors under Napoleon, Louis XVIII, and Charles X. He was elevated to the rank of baron.
Bosio created the quadriga atop the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel near the Louvre and the equestrian statue of Louis XIV on the Place des Victoires. His elegant Neoclassical style, with its smooth surfaces and graceful proportions, suited the taste of Restoration-era France perfectly.
