Daniel Rauch (1777-1857) was a German Neoclassical sculptor who became the leading monument builder in 19th-century Prussia. He studied under Schadow and spent formative years in Rome studying ancient sculpture and working alongside Thorvaldsen and Canova.
Rauch's equestrian monument of Frederick the Great (1851) on Berlin's Unter den Linden is his masterwork and one of the finest equestrian statues of the 19th century. He also created portrait busts and funerary monuments throughout his long career.
