George Minne (1866-1941) was a Belgian sculptor and draftsman associated with Symbolism and early Expressionism. Born in Ghent, he created elongated, introspective figures that expressed inner spiritual states rather than external appearances.
His Fountain of the Kneeling Youths (1898-1906), featuring five identical emaciated kneeling boys arranged around a basin, deeply influenced Austrian and German Expressionist sculptors. The work was exhibited at the Vienna Secession and admired by Klimt's circle.
