Gil de Siloé (active c. 1475-1505) was a sculptor, likely of Flemish or French origin, who became the leading artist of Late Gothic Spain. He worked primarily in Burgos, where his masterworks include the retable and royal tombs at the Cartuja de Miraflores.
The Miraflores tombs of King John II of Castile and Queen Isabella of Portugal feature extraordinary star-shaped platforms covered in intricate tracery carving. His altarpiece in the same church is one of the most elaborate wooden retables in Spain. Gil de Siloé's style combines Flemish naturalism with Mudéjar decorative richness.
