Jean Henri Riesener
French
Jean Henri Riesener (1734-1806) was a German-born French cabinetmaker who became the most celebrated ébéniste of the reign of Louis XVI. He completed the Bureau du Roi begun by his master Oeben and served as cabinetmaker to Marie Antoinette.
Riesener's furniture combines Neoclassical elegance with extraordinary pictorial marquetry. He created hundreds of pieces for the French royal residences, many featuring his signature floral marquetry panels framed in gilt bronze mounts. His work represents the pinnacle of 18th-century French furniture making.
