Joseph Mozier (1812-1870) was an American Neoclassical sculptor who worked in Rome from 1845 until his death. Born in Burlington, Vermont, he was a successful businessman before turning to sculpture. He created ideal marble figures of literary and mythological subjects for American collectors.
Mozier's Pocahontas and The Wept of Wish-Ton-Wish reflected American interest in Native American themes interpreted through Neoclassical form.
