Martin Carlin
French
Martin Carlin (c. 1730-1785) was a German-born French cabinetmaker who specialized in luxury furniture incorporating Sèvres porcelain plaques. Working in Paris, he created small-scale pieces: jewel cabinets, writing tables, and work tables mounted with painted porcelain panels that made his furniture unique.
Carlin's combination of fine woodwork, gilt bronze mounts, and Sèvres porcelain plaques created objects of extraordinary refinement. He worked for the leading Parisian marchands-merciers (luxury dealers), including Simon-Philippe Poirier and Dominique Daguerre.
