Pierre Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) was the most celebrated French bronzier (maker of decorative bronze mounts and objects) of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He created gilt bronze mounts, candelabra, clocks, and decorative objects for the French royal court, Napoleon, and wealthy patrons across Europe.
Thomire's gilt bronzes are among the finest examples of French decorative metalwork. He employed up to 800 workers at the height of his career and produced some of the most important Empire-style furnishings, including pieces for the imperial palaces.
