Simon Troger (1693-1768) was a Bavarian sculptor known for virtuoso carved ivory and wood figures. Working in the Rococo tradition of southern Germany, he created small-scale genre scenes, religious figures, and allegorical groups combining ivory faces and hands with ebony or fruitwood bodies.
Troger's mixed-media technique produced striking contrasts between pale ivory skin and dark wooden clothing. His figures of beggars, musicians, and peasants are prized for their lively characterization and technical skill.
