The Basilica della Santissima Annunziata is a working church in Florence's Piazza della Santissima Annunziata, known for its fresco cycle by Andrea del Sarto. Built in 1250 and expanded during the Renaissance, the entrance cloister (Chiostro dei Voti) contains del Sarto's San Filippo Benizzi series, a group of frescoes depicting the life of the Servite order's founder.
The frescoes include The Punishment of the Sinners, The Miracle of the Relics, The Investiture of the Leper, and The Journey of the Magi. Del Sarto painted them between 1509 and 1514, working alongside Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino. The basilica itself is richly decorated with Baroque additions over its Mannerist bones. Entry is free, though visitors should dress modestly as it remains an active place of worship. Shoulders and knees should be covered.
