National Gallery Prague

The National Gallery Prague was established on February 5, 1796, making it one of the oldest public art institutions in Central Europe. Rather than a single building, its holdings are spread across seven historic Prague sites, with the Trade Fair Palace serving as the main home for modern and contemporary work.

The gallery covers Czech and international art from the medieval period to the present, including Seated Woman with Bent Knee by Egon Schiele, a characteristically angular figure study from the Austrian expressionist. International names in the collection include Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, and Rodin, alongside Alfons Mucha's Slav Epic, on view since 2012.

The collection is also strong in Czech Cubism, a movement that took root almost nowhere else, with related holdings on view at the Black Madonna House and Museum Kampa across the city.
