French artist Claude Monet painted this views of Bordighera during his 1884 trip to the Italian Riviera. The Mediterranean light and exotic vegetation challenged his palette. Palm trees and bright sunshine appear throughout this series.
Monet found the colors almost too intense to capture. His vibrant brushwork renders the warmth and brilliance of the coastal town. This painting hangs at the Art Institute of Chicago.
