Vilhelm Hammershøi completed this 1900 interior showing dust motes dancing in sunbeams. The quiet room is filled with soft light, typical of his contemplative Copenhagen interiors. Hammershøi found poetry in empty spaces and silence.
The painting measures 70 × 59 cm in oil on canvas. Few painters have captured stillness so profoundly. This work hangs at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen.
