by Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas painted the countryside scene, unusual for an artist known for urban subjects. The composition shows rolling terrain rendered with atmospheric softness. Though Degas rarely painted pure landscapes, this work demonstrates his ability to capture natural light and space.
Degas preferred modern Parisian subjects but occasionally painted landscapes during countryside visits. His Impressionist technique captured atmospheric effects in nature as effectively as in the city.
