Edgar Degas titled this work simply Rest, depicting a figure in a moment of pause. Degas was fascinated by the human body in unguarded, natural positions. His pastels and paintings often captured dancers, bathers, and workers during rest periods between activities.
Unlike traditional academic poses, Degas preferred to show unconventional angles and casual postures that revealed character through body language. His approach influenced how later artists depicted the figure in everyday moments rather than idealized compositions.
Works that share an artist, movement, museum, genre, palette or theme with Rest.
