Dutch artist Piet Mondrian painted this evening scene along the Weesperzijde, a waterway in Amsterdam. The setting sun casts golden light across the water and buildings. This early work shows Mondrian before his abstract period.
His sensitivity to light is already evident in this atmospheric view. The work hangs at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
