Rembrandt painted A Warrior between 1626 and 1627, early in his career. The small work measures 40 x 29 cm and depicts a figure in armor with a pensive expression. Bold contrasting light and shadow illuminate the warrior's features and the detailed details of his armor.
The warrior's identity remains unknown. Some scholars see the artist himself in the figure, while others view it as reflecting the Dutch Golden Age's fascination with military prowess. It currently hangs in a private collection.
