Rembrandt van Rijn made this powerful etching showing Christ on the cross between two thieves. Known as "The Three Crosses," the print uses dramatic light and shadow to convey the cosmic significance of the crucifixion.
Rembrandt reworked this plate multiple times, creating dramatically different impressions. The work is one of his greatest prints. An impression is at the Kemper Art Museum.
