
Alessandro Cesati (c. 1500-c. 1564), called "il Grechetto," was an Italian gem engraver and medalist who worked for the papal court. He created portrait medals and carved gems of extraordinary refinement for popes Paul III and Pius IV, and was considered one of the finest gem carvers of the Renaissance.
