Ed Ruscha

Ed Ruscha (born 1937) is an American artist associated with Pop Art and West Coast Cool, known for his word paintings and photographs of Los Angeles. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he moved to L.A. in 1956 and studied at the Chouinard Art Institute.
Ruscha's paintings of gas stations, Hollywood signs, and single words rendered in dramatic typography became iconic images of American culture. His artist's books, including Twentysix Gasoline Stations (1963) and Every Building on the Sunset Strip, pioneered the artist's book as a fine art form.
