
Michoacán art comes from the pre-Columbian cultures of western Mexico, particularly the Purépecha (Tarascan) civilization. These ancient peoples created distinctive ceramic figures, stone carvings, and metalwork. The Purépecha were among the few Mesoamerican cultures to master copper and bronze working.
