The Totonac civilization of the Gulf Coast of Veracruz, Mexico created distinctive stone sculptures, ceramic figures, and yoke-shaped stone carvings. Their stone yokes, hachas, and palmas, connected to the Mesoamerican ballgame, are among the most technically accomplished stone carvings of ancient Mexico. The Totonacs also built the impressive site of El Tajín.
