About Tuscan
Tuscan sculpture is rooted in the Renaissance, with Florence as its center. From Donatello to Michelangelo, the region shaped Western sculpture. Carrara's marble quarries supplied stone across Europe.
A God the Father Blessing figure (c. 1395) is held by the Art Institute of Chicago.
It depicts God the Father in a blessing gesture, a devotional subject from the late Gothic period preceding the Florentine Renaissance.
The piece is dated to around 1395, just before Tuscany's Renaissance sculptural boom in the following century.
