The Rockox House (Rockoxhuis) in Antwerp was the home of Nicolaas Rockox (1560-1640), seven-time mayor of Antwerp and a friend and patron of Peter Paul Rubens. The restored 17th-century patrician house opened as a museum in 1977.
The collection recreates a wealthy Antwerp interior of the Baroque period, with paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, and Patinir displayed alongside period furniture, tapestries, and ceramics. Rubens's painting of Rockox and his wife, now in the Mauritshuis, originally hung here. The courtyard garden has been reconstructed from historical records.
