Adriaen van Ostade painted A Village Inn, depicting peasants gathered at a rural tavern. Such scenes were Van Ostade's specialty during the Dutch Golden Age. He rendered interiors with warm earth tones and captured the convivial atmosphere of everyday life.
Van Ostade studied with Frans Hals in Haarlem and produced hundreds of genre paintings throughout his career. His tavern scenes influenced later artists and remain popular examples of Baroque genre painting.
