Bernardino Luini rendered this image of Christ raising his hand in blessing. The figure shows the soft modeling and gentle expression that Luini learned from studying Leonardo da Vinci's work. A subtle sfumato technique blurs the contours.
Luini was the most successful of Leonardo's Milanese followers. His sweet-faced religious figures were widely popular in northern Italy. This painting hangs at the Louvre in Paris.
