by Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo completed this double portrait shortly after her marriage to Diego Rivera. The composition shows the couple with Frida appearing small beside her monumental husband, reflecting their complex relationship.
Kahlo and Rivera's marriage was passionate and turbulent. This early work already shows her distinctive style emerging. It hangs at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
