Lawrence Alma-Tadema collaborated with Matthijs Maris on this charming study of a dog with her puppies. The composition combines Alma-Tadema's precise technique with Maris's sensitivity to animal subjects.
Such collaborations between artists were not uncommon in the 19th century. It hangs at the Bredius Museum in The Hague.
