by Masaccio
Masaccio's "Tribute Money" revolutionized Renaissance painting with its unified perspective, atmospheric depth, and monumental figures. The fresco depicts three moments: Christ instructing Peter, Peter finding a coin in a fish's mouth, and Peter paying the tax collector. Figures stand with unprecedented weight and dignity.
This Brancacci Chapel fresco became a school for Renaissance artists. Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael all studied here. The work remains in situ at Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence.
