by Anish Kapoor, 2004
Widow is a monumental installation by British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor, created in 2004. The work consists of black PVC-polyester stretched taut over a steel frame, measuring 461 x 1463 x 461 cm. It hangs from the wall like a massive organic form.
Kapoor's exploration of the void takes physical shape here. The black membrane attracts the eye with its complex geometry while simultaneously repelling viewers with its impenetrability. The experience goes beyond sight: sound interacts with the hollow structure, drawing visitors into an unexplored dimension between artwork and observer.
The installation is permanently housed at MAXXI (National Museum of 21st Century Arts) in Rome, where it demonstrates Kapoor's interest in darkness, negative space, and the body's relationship to architectural scale.
Luxury wall art with the same mood and energy. Gallery-quality canvas, no museum crowds.
