Antoine Etex (1808-1888) was a French sculptor, painter, and architect who contributed two of the four relief panels on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris: The Resistance of 1814 and The Peace of 1815. Born in Paris, he studied under Pradier, Ingres, and Dupaty.
Etex was one of the most ambitious French sculptors of the Romantic period, though he's often overshadowed by his Arc de Triomphe neighbor François Rude. His style balances Romantic expressiveness with Neoclassical restraint. He also produced portrait busts, funerary monuments, and architectural designs throughout a long, prolific career.
