Gilles Joubert
French
Gilles Joubert (1689-1775) was a French cabinetmaker who served as ébéniste du roi to Louis XV for over 25 years, making him one of the longest-serving royal furniture makers. He created monumental Rococo furniture for the French crown, including commodes, medal cabinets, and corner cupboards.
Joubert's furniture combines architectural scale with Rococo ornament and fine veneer work. His later pieces show the transition from Rococo curves to the straighter lines of early Neoclassicism.
