Jean Warin (1604-1672) was a French medalist, engraver, and sculptor who served as general engraver of coins under Louis XIII and Louis XIV. His portrait medals and coins of the French kings are among the finest 17th-century French medals.
Warin also created a bronze bust of Louis XIV that demonstrates his skill as a sculptor of monumental portraiture. His coinage reforms standardized French monetary design and elevated the quality of French medals to rival Italian work.
