The Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska, opened in 1931 in an Art Deco building of pink Etowah marble, funded by Sarah Joslyn as a memorial to her husband George. A 1994 expansion by Norman Foster added a modernist wing.
The collection spans ancient to contemporary art, with notable strengths in 19th-century European and American painting. The museum holds one of the country's finest collections of art of the American West, including works by Karl Bodmer documenting his 1832-1834 journey up the Missouri River. Impressionist, modern, and contemporary works round out the holdings. Admission is free.
